Every family that walks through our doors carries a story. These are a few of the voices that remind us why this work matters — and why it must continue.
When we arrived as refugees, we had nothing — no language, no network, no idea where to start. The Shalom Organization met us where we were and walked with us every step of the way. We have a home now. Our children are in school. I cannot put into words what that means.
My son was born at 26 weeks. The NICU was terrifying and we were far from family. Shalom's team showed up with meals, with support, with someone who just sat with us. We were not alone in the hardest weeks of our lives.
I was behind on rent and too ashamed to ask anyone for help. A neighbor told me about Shalom. They helped me stay in my home and connected me with job training. I have been stable for two years now.
The food assistance program kept our family fed during the hardest months of my life. No judgment, no paperwork maze — just real help from real people who cared.
My daughter was falling behind in school and I didn't know how to help her. The tutoring program changed everything. She graduated last spring with honors. I cried the whole ceremony.
After losing my job, I felt invisible. Shalom's training program gave me new skills and the confidence to start over. I now work in healthcare and I volunteer here on weekends.
