Our story

God Turned Our Trial into a Mission

The Shalom Organization was founded from a journey that changed our lives forever. We understand the emotional, physical, and financial challenges that families face when they have a baby in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). This mission is deeply personal to us. Our secretary spent months by her premature baby's side in the NICU, experiencing the fear, uncertainty, sleepless nights, and overwhelming emotions that so many parents endure. During that difficult season, she also witnessed firsthand the burdens many families carry while trying to remain strong for their children. That experience inspired the creation of The Shalom Organization. We believe that no family should face such a difficult journey alone. Our organization was established to offer compassion, practical support, and hope to families with babies in the NICU through care packages, transportation assistance, essential supplies, and encouragement when they need it most. What began as one family's story has grown into a mission to serve others with love, dignity, and hope. We are committed to walking alongside families during some of the most challenging moments of their lives and reminding them that they are not alone.

Who we are today

While our journey began with a passion to support NICU families, our mission has grown to serve vulnerable individuals and communities through food assistance, rent assistance, humanitarian aid, education, and compassionate care. Guided by Christian values, we are committed to bringing hope, restoring dignity, and transforming lives wherever help is needed.

We are a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, fully funded by individual donors, foundations, and community partners. Every dollar we receive goes directly to programs.

What we believe

Every family deserves dignity, safety, and a real chance to flourish — not someday, but now.

We don't believe in charity as a transaction. We believe in community as a covenant — a mutual commitment to show up for each other, especially when it's hard.

What guides us

Three values shape every decision we make and every interaction we have.

Dignity first

We treat every person who walks through our doors as a full human being — not a case number, not a statistic. Our programs are designed to preserve and restore dignity at every step.

Whole-family care

Crises don't arrive in neat categories. A family facing food insecurity is often also dealing with housing stress, trauma, and educational gaps. We address the whole picture.

Community as the answer

The most powerful resource we have is each other. Our volunteers, donors, and staff are neighbors helping neighbors — and that's exactly how it should be.
